Please keep in mind, we do not MAKE you purchase a package. Our most popular form of payment is by Block rate where the student pays for only 10 or 20 hours at a time, you are also able to pay flight by flight if you would like! You will gain full access to our system and be able to see your billing and account after each and every flight, nothing is hidden you will be able to access your account and balance the same way we do. With that being said, this package is designed based off of what we see as the average flight time and instruction needed to complete your license. Keep in mind if you see a cheap package being offered for example 7 or 8k they are not guaranteeing you a license for that price and you will need to continue to pay them at a higher rate to continue once you’ve used that balance. Thats why we only offer this ONE package because it is an accurate depiction of what you can expect time wise and finance wise to complete your private pilots certificate.

Private Pilot Course Requirements

To be eligible to pursue your CA Private Pilot License, you must:

Be at least 16 years old to fly solo.
Be at least 17 years old to receive your private pilot certificate.
Read, speak, write, and understand English.
Obtain at least a third-class medical certificate.
Perform basic math: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.

Private Pilot License Course Overview

The Private Pilot course is the first course taken by new student pilots. Ascent values the importance of a strong foundation and provides a blended instructional approach that includes our online and in class Ground School and Aviation Skill Development. You will learn basic aerodynamics, FAA regulations, aircraft weight balance, and aircraft performance in the classroom and in the airplane. Flight lessons within the course include maneuvers and procedures required for students to solo the aircraft and conduct a daytime cross-country flight. As an FAA-rated flight school, our training ensures ACS (Airman Certification Standards) for all students. Upon the successful completion of the Private Pilot course, students will have gained the aeronautical experience necessary to apply for an FAA Private Pilot Certificate (PPL), the first step to becoming a Professional Pilot. *All Private Pilot training flights are conducted in either Piper or Cessna Aircraft.

Private Pilot License Course Duration

Full-time students enrolled in the Professional Pilot program will have 3-5 lessons per week. Students who truly dedicate themselves to completing their PPL by studying hard and making pilot training their top priority, are able to complete within a 3-month period. Part-time students that are working or enrolled in school may find that their PPL takes 4-6 months to finish based on their available schedules and how hard they are willing to study.

Private Pilot License Course Training

The FAA requires students to log a minimum of 40 total flight hours in order to be eligible for the Private Pilot’s License (PPL); however, with today’s technology and the advanced airspace system in and around SOCAL, fewer than 5% of pilots complete their training within the minimum flight requirements. From our experience, students need a minimum of 50 airplane flight hours to meet the PPL requirements. Students that progress quickly through the courses are proficient at English, usually fly 5 times per week, work hard in their ground lessons, and study independently. They have also taken courses through our Virtual Flight Academy before arriving at flight school.
